Today's Mayfair Organ Concert is given by Makoto James (Holy Trinity, Sloane Square), who will perform the following programme:
- JS Bach arr. Guilmant - Sinfonia from Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir BWV 29
- Messiaen - L’Ascension
- Wagner arr. Brewer - Walther’s Preislied from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg WWV 96
As always, admission is free with a retiring collection in aid of the series.
Makoto James (born 1996) is an Anglo-Japanese organist and accompanist based in London. He combines a busy freelance career with the role of Organist of Holy Trinity, Sloane Square.
Makoto started his musical life at the age of seven as a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral, studying organ with Timothy Wakerell and Jamie McVinnie. He later studied in France, receiving the 'Prix Vidal' for his organ diploma from the Toulouse conservatoire under Michel Bouvard and Jan Willem Jansen.
He then went up to Oxford as Organ Scholar of Christ Church, where he took a First in Music and accompanied the Cathedral Choir in daily services, as well as in prominent venues around the world, including St John's Smith Square, Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts, and St Thomas's Fifth Avenue, New York.
